Medical Marijuana

1. What does it mean that marijuana is a schedule I controlled substance? How does this impact scientific inquiry?
2. For which conditions does evidence exist to support use of marijuana as a therapeutic modality?
3. For which conditions, if any, do you think marijuana should be prescribed by physicians?
4. Can physicians legally recommend marijuana use in states without medical marijuana laws?
5. How important is standardization of the “dosage” of marijuana that is used? Is the route of administration important? Can cannabinoid pharmaceuticals replace smoked marijuana?
6. What are potential negative consequences of medical marijuana law passage? Why does “perceived risk” of use matter?
7. In examining trends in marijuana use in states with and without medical marijuana laws, explain in simple terms why both the year and state should be analyzed as “fixed effects”.
8. As a physician, would you advocate for decriminalization or legalization of marijuana differently than passage of medical marijuana laws?
