A journalist describes a visit to Rikers.

Before the Law: A New Yorker about a Bronx boy, Kalief Browder, arrested for stealing a backpack. He spent three years on Riker's awaiting trial. Ultimately his case was dismissed. He had been placed in solitary confinement for about two years while at Riker's.  The New Yorker has published video regarding violence he experienced while on Rikers.  He committed suicide on June 6, 2015.
